Introducing the Double Cask Finish Series, the freshest addition from Old Fourth Distillery! This extraordinary 100% Atlanta-aged MGP is a real show-stopper. Each release is aged for a minimum of 6 years, with at least a year of finishing. Bottled at barrel proof, this allows us to show off the complexity of each finish. Old Fourth Distillery had its eye on this barrel for over a year; it had been unique since the day they filled it. Today, they couldn't be happier that the team at ReserveBar made this selection.
From Lee Diaz, Topflight Series Panel Member:
I had been following Shortbarrel for some time, watching closely as their bourbon and finished whiskey work progressed into an astounding business with incredible award-winning selections. So when they announced the acquisition of Old Fourth Distillery, Atlanta's first distillery since prohibition, there was no doubt that we had to pursue an opportunity to make a selection under the Old Fourth name. To do this is to celebrate what was, what is, and, within the Shortbarrel family, what will be. Having traveled to Atlanta to make ReserveBar's first Shortbarrel selection, I had yet to learn that an Old Fourth release would quickly follow—in fact, this selection happened just four barrels following our Shortbarrel Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon S2B20 pick. The Old Fourth Single Barrel Ruby Port Finished Whiskey couldn't be more different from the Shortbarrel bourbon selection; thus begins the long list of reasons it was selected. This S2B21 barrel, paired with its S2B20 counterpart, exhibits a broad range of flavors that the Shortbarrel team is looking to develop; each can be enjoyed on its own, and together, they offer a beautiful tasting experience.
This Old Fourth Distillery Single Barrel Ruby Port Finished Whiskey S2B21 beams with that port richness, harmoniously complementing the 70/21/9 mashbill bourbon it is finishing. At first open, the aromas from this bottle will quickly greet you. The resulting nose provides a velvety allure of vanilla custard, luscious caramel, warm baking spices, and dark fruit that embrace you, weaving a tapestry of familiar aromas. Beneath it all, the whiskey's captivating foundation quickly resounds. On the palate, you will discover dark jam, raspberry pie filling, and crème brûlée burst forth with a delightful and invigorating intensity. They dance together with baking spices and a hint of supple leather. Like a masterful fusion, bourbon and port intertwine flawlessly, creating a symphony of taste. At the same time, the proof gracefully reveals the intensity without being found overwhelming. This provides a lingering finish full of raspberry jam, cherry, and a touch of rye spice, elegantly transitioning to delightful sugarplum and the dry embrace of leather. It leaves your mouth watering as you wait for the next sip—an enjoyable experience that leaves a lasting impression.
