This Nulu Straight Bourbon was initially distilled at MGP. Once brought in, it was re-barreled into a new virgin toasted and charred American oak barrel. This secondary maturation, known as "Double Oaked," results in richer tannin, darker color, more intense mouthfeel, and more oak presence. B896 was "Double Oaked" for 10 months in a Heavy Toast Char 3 American oak barrel.
"Remembering the tasting when ReserveBar came to select, Lee proclaimed, 'We can't make it this easy on you.' He mentioned that this was the second thing we tasted for their selection, and barrel B896 was a clear standout winner. This barrel is full-bodied, rich, viscous, sweet, oaky, and fruity. You all will love this Topflight selection." – Chase Hazelbaker, Co-Founder of Nulu Whiskey
From Lee Diaz, Topflight Series Panel Member:
There is no doubt that by now, you have heard of Nulu or seen the bottle either at your local store or favorite bar. In exploring prevailing fast-moving whiskey brands, Nulu jumped on our list quickly. But is what they're producing worth the purchase? After spending a May afternoon in their warehouse with co-founder Chase Hazelbacker, tasting from barrels set aside for us, followed by several fresh barrel cracks, I can tell you that some incredible pours and spectacular finishes are coming from Nulu and deserve your time and attention.
Enter our Nulu Double-Oaked Bourbon Single Barrel, coming to you at 114.8-proof cask strength. What I love about a compelling Double Oaked release is that when developed well, the resulting bourbon celebrates your favorite flavors of a great bourbon while layering in some nuance and beautiful oak-forward notes throughout. On the nose, as this pour opens up, you'll discover candied orange and fresh pancakes with maple syrup, oak, milk chocolate, and nutmeg. You'll enjoy all-spice, walnut, ripe berry, and toasted oak on the palate. This continues into a long finish with clove, oak tannins, pipe tobacco, simple syrup, and that warming Kentucky hug. It's a bottle you'll want to share with others, and you still have a propensity for hiding it from everyone.
