Frey Ranch tastes every whiskey barrel as it ages and specially selects those that stand out with unique flavors and textures for its single barrel program. Born with exceptional characteristics, these barrels are bottled at cask strength. Their single barrel collection has included barrel releases of four-grain, three-grain, and single-grain mash bills to highlight the grains they grow right on Frey Ranch.
It was such an honor to have the SFWSC judges taste and select a Frey Ranch Single Barrel. These judges have some of the best palates in the world, and they were stuck between two of our barrels!
From Lee Diaz, Topflight Series Panel Member:
Tucked away in Central Nevada is an incredible family ranch that is challenging what you know about the notion of grain-to-glass. So much so that co-founders Colby and Ashley Frey have released a true farm-to-table bourbon. The whiskey production from distillation to bottling is completed on-site, and the grains that make up the flavor-filled bourbon in this bottle are grown and barley malted on the Frey Ranch. As a whiskey buyer, this approach to whiskey immediately caught my attention; as a bourbon aficionado, the juice within the bottle has made me continue to keep an eye on what they're producing. Now, as a brand that continues to shine with new releases, they have complemented them with an astounding number of awards, including multiple San Francisco World Spirits Competition Double Gold, Gold, and Silver medals.
This “Sky Blue” release from Frey Ranch, in partnership with the Tasting Alliance, is a magnificent representation of the flavors developed by this farm-to-table approach. Picked by a panel of San Francisco World Spirits Competition judges with Colby and Ashley Frey as a way to honor their work at Frey Ranch as a multi-award winning best-in-class brand, this is a pour that will delight your palate and make you want to take a drive to the ranch. A beautiful earthy undertone persists throughout this pour with a nose of dark fruit, honey, cardamom, clove, and florals. This prepares you for dark chocolate flavors, oak, roasted nuts, light citrus, and stone fruit. This will lead to a chewy lingering finish, where you'll discover honey, herbal tea, and toasted grains. It is a beautiful example of whiskey produced by Frey Ranch and a pour to truly be treasured.
