To sip Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is to experience bourbon in its purest form: uncut, straight from the barrel, and without chill filtering. This ReserveBar exclusive is a 10-YO release that boasts a complex array of flavors in a 124.2-proof pour. Each bottle is hand labeled with its unique proof and batch number, but the nose, taste, and finish are pure Elijah Craig.
From Brian Schmidt, Topflight Series Panel Member:
This is the second ReserveBar Elijah Craig Single Barrel, and it is a limited 60-bottle offering. While this is hard because we can only share this with a handful of people, I'm generally a huge fan of "short barrels" for their flavor and aromatic complexity. This selection is no different. Clocking in at 124.2-proof, this 10-year-old bourbon selection from Heaven Hill distillery is a delight from nose to finish. On the nose, I get butter pecan and ripe fruit paired with the classic oak and caramel bourbon notes. This is a surprisingly smooth pour for the proof. That fruit and nut combination is immediately present on the palate, followed by a gentle but long finish of oak, caramel, and light stone fruit. There's a bit of a vegetative citrus element on the mid-palate that comes and goes, but this bourbon is the fun kind that develops as it sits in the glass. Add a couple of drops of water for an even more balanced palate with cantaloupe and walnut vibes and an increased oak and smoke finish. This is a remarkably easy drinking 124-proof, and it won't blow out your palate the same way other Elijah Craig Single Barrel selections might in the 130+ proof range, so this can absolutely be sipped neat. Of course, I highly recommend this bottle if you can snag one before it's gone.
