For the 10th Anniversary of Crafthouse Cocktails our co-founder and world champion bartender, Charles Joly, went to work with some great friends to collaborate on a cocktail idea that had been brewing for some time! (pun intended...) Each ingredient in that seemingly simple combination plays a key role. We tasted countless combinations with our friends from Dark Matter Coffee and Traverse City Whiskey Company to get the perfect end result.
The Old Fashioned is truly the granddaddy of all cocktails. The essence of the very word "cocktail", as defined 217 years ago: spirits of any kind, sugar, water, bitters. The Crafthouse Coffee Old Fashioned reflects co-founder Charles Joly's vision for the perfect version of this venerable cocktail with a signature twist. When a cocktail has so few ingredients, carefully and intentionally choosing each component is paramount. The bourbon is the foundation of this new release. We partnered with our friends from Traverse City Whiskey Co. and picked barrels from their aging stock to build upon. When it came to the coffee, we didn't have to travel far to work with the best in the business. No roaster is more meticulous, conscientious and creative than the crew at Chicago's Dark Matter Coffee. We settled on a hand-selected catuai cultivar from Guatemala. With notes of berries, citrus and chocolate, the flavors sing in the cocktail. The bitters are a custom creation, specially made for this batch. A blend of citrus peel, baking spices and cacao sourced from Sleep Walk Chocolateria bind everything together seamlessly.
